Imagine if we could give every one of our girls this time and space from such a young age, that they stay connected always to their hearts, bodies and souls. Imagine if they honoured their deep feminine essence and truly felt the full power of their womanhood.
Through their mentorship, rites of passage and Girls' Circle trainings, JOYW is bringing this vision for our girls and our world into reality.

I have been mentoring girls as a co-founder and facilitator in the Maiden Star Coming of Age Programs since 2011. I took the Journey of Young Women mentoring girls training in order to increase my knowledge and facilitation skills. This training gave me the confidence to create two new programs: a school-based Health & Sexuality course for girls, and the Girls’ Empowerment Movement (GEM) through the Nelson & District Women’s Centre.

Through JOYW mentoring, women and girls are able to reconnect with the divine/sacred feminine existent within each of us.
The circles, and the communities and connections they grow, enable girls to draw out and acknowledge each woman's gifts, strengths and abilities, and to develop them in a supportive, open and accepting atmosphere.
Girls are reconnected to one another, and the inherent power within a supportive feminine community. Girls are also able to reconnect to the deeply significant knowledge of the sacredness and power of their bodies, minds and feminine consciousness.
I believe these circles will empower girls throughout their lives, through having a knowledge base related to their divinity - this is something they will be able to draw strength from over all stages of their lives, and will enable them to pass this knowledge and understanding onto others (of all genders).
Not only do these circles empower individuals, I believe they empower entire communities, and will have far-reaching societal affects.

This mentoring program imparts so many tools to help girls to listen to their bodies, to understand how their moon cycle relates to their overall health – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually; and to honor and celebrate their bodies’ wisdom!
I found Journey of Young Women in preparation for consciously parenting my now 5 year-old daughter and support and guide her through her journey into womanhood. Being a part of this circle, I’ve come to realize how important it is for girls to have nurturing guidance and support along their journey.

Finding JOYW was like finding the light within. I had no idea how fulfilling it would feel to circle with girls and to pass on the information I wish I had received. Being cared about and guided by someone other than your parents is more powerful than one imagines.
The JOYW Mentoring Girls Training put these larger-than-life ideas into manageable portions that I could easily bring back to the community - everything about Girl Circles from teaching messages to logistics.

I feel immensely empowered by the ideas in the JOYW Mentor Training - respect for Mother Earth, communion with the Moon, connection with and awe for my cycle, etc.
And I feel a sense of grief at what I have missed out on knowing and experiencing over the course of my life about the power of being woman.
I feel passionate about more young woman being connected to their sense of power in their womanhood.
I feel angry about the shame which is inherent in being a woman in today's modern society.
I feel sorrow about how we as women are conditioned to pit ourselves against one another.
I feel inspired by the deep connection that I am beginning to feel to all women.
